Lab awarded grant to study neonatal activity in Fragile X from the Clinical and Translational Scienc
With support from Children's and a gift from Dr Jack and Shirley Kaplan to George Washington University, this study is using a rat model of Fragile X syndrome (FXS) to identify the earliest possible cortical activity deficits in Fragile X syndrome. The results should inform development of pre-symptomatic EEG based diagnostics for autism in at-risk populations such as very pre-term infants. Identification of the network and synaptic mechanisms of the earliest deficits in cortical processing is important to identify new treatment targets that can be delivered at the appropriate ages.
